The 9 Songwriter Series features nine local artists who combine their talents and sounds into an dynamic collaborative show.

Founded in 2008 by singer/songwriter Justin Trawick, "The 9 Songwriter Series" is a touring songwriter collective and live show based in Washington, DC. The show was created with the idea of nine artists getting together and combining their talents in order to play in nicer clubs and to larger amounts of people. Each installment features nine solo singer/songwriters performing together in a unique and captivating format, telling stories, and often sitting in each each other and making up music on the spot. Where else can you hear almost 30 songs from nine different artists in one evening? To date, over 300 different artists have participated in "The 9", at shows in DC, Baltimore, Annapolis, Philadelphia, New York, Fairfield, Boston, Richmond, Charlottesville, Charlotte, Atlanta, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Gay Ole Opry Benefit for Cville Pride

1304 E Market St,
Charlottesville, VA 22902 [map]

After five years of trailblazing queer country music, New York City’s Gay Ole Opry is hitting the road for the first time. Opry regulars The Paisley Fields and Karen & the Sorrows are heading South for a week-long tour, and can’t wait to come to Charlottesville to play with Debra Guy at a special fundraiser for Cville Pride. The show starts at 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 30th at Firefly at 1304 East Market St.

With Debra Guy’s honest, gritty, music, The Paisley Fields’ harmony-driven, piano-based alt-country, and Karen & the Sorrows “haunting pedal steel work and unvarnished heartbreak” (Bust Magazine), the show will be a first-of-its-kind good time.

Why queer country? Because we love country music even when it doesn’t love us back. Because everybody needs a honky tonk angel to hold them tight. Because we believe in country music for all cowpeople.

Friday, October 23
Doors 6 pm / Show 8 pm
GA Seated
Tickets: $7 Advance / $10 Day of Show

A showcase for songwriters who call Virginia home, the Six Pack Songwriter Series is approaching it’s 3 year anniversary. Conceived in February 2012 by local musician Jason Burke, the concept has its roots in the Songwriter’s night at The Local Restaurant. It was there that Jason met Jesse Harper, Brian Caputo, and Michael Clem, all established central Virginia musicians who, in their own right, were working to advance the craft and quality of local music.

Approaching Bob Taylor in March 2012, Jason presented the format for the show: it would be akin to a famous chocolate sampler: six artists playing for 20 minutes each. Taylor agreed to a year’s worth of shows, which yielded 30 unique performances from area songwriters. In August 2013, the Six Pack Songwriter Series moved to Charlottesville’s Southern Café & Music Hall. With four concerts there and one “All Stars” show at the Paramount Theater, the show shows no sign of slowing down.

The October 23 performance will mark the 10th “regular” show, featuring six newcomers to the Six Pack stage: Pat Anderson, Debra Guy, Brian Patrick, Scott Tiernan, Hunter Wolfe, and Robin Wynn. Stylistically, the content presented can be all over the map, but there’s the beauty: the diversity of Virginia songwriting.

Additional information regarding the show can be found atwww.sixpacksongs.com.
